Prayer Stones: The Cherry on Top

gurudongmar, lake, north sikkim

This is a snap from my Sikkim Tour photo-story series. The clear reflections of the snow-covered peaks in the still waters of the sacred lake, Gurudongmar could make a decent picture. I think, the heap of prayers stones in the foreground works like the cherry on top to make this frame look more interesting and meaningful. What do you say? 🙂

The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Details in Stone

stone details, haveli, jaisalmer, rajasthan

This week’s photo challenge topic ‘details’ instantly reminded me of the delicate stone detailing in the palaces in Rajasthan. This one is from a palace in Jaisalmer Fort.

Now, take a closer look.

The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Look Up – 2

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Sattal, one of the several beautiful lakes in Kumaon, was a part of our sightseeing tour in Nainital. Sattal is a combination of three lakes connected together naturally. Apart from boating facility there is one more attraction. It offers a small trek to a church on top of the hill on the other side of the lake.

While trekking along the steep, shadowy walking trail I looked upwards to see the towering pines and other coniferous trees creating a nice canopy over my head.

“Keep looking up! I learn from the past, dream about the future and look up.”

~ Rachel Boston

Jaipur City Palace is an amazing place. The moment I entered the palace premises I was blown away by the imposing pink sandstone architecture and the intricate carvings on the walls and columns. After some time I got busy in exploring the palace and taking photographs.

I was walking around the courtyard, looking and admiring the architectural beauty. Suddenly, a fluttering sound made me look up to the sky. A flock of pigeons were flying above. And that’s when I noticed the beautiful Clock Tower of Jaipur.

The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Opposites

opposites, contrast

“All colors are the friends of their neighbors and the lovers of their opposites.”

~ Marc Chagall

Last week I stumbled upon a post on minimalist photography, which I found very appealing. As soon as I finished reading the article, I took up my camera and started looking for a subject.

I knew that the newly painted boundary wall  in our backyard could be a subject. So I ran to the balcony and this green vine caught my attention immediately. The combination of living and nonliving – the contrast of lush green leaves and the bright yellow wall on its background creates a nice frame.

I would also like to share the opposite combination here. A yellow flower with green background. So… which one do you like more?

P.S: I have brightened the image slightly and darkened the edges to enhance the colors. Hope you like it. 🙂

The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Partners

“Of all the myriad ways we define love, there is perhaps none more honest and powerful than this: Great love is rooted in great partnership.”

~ Sarah MacLean

It was a foggy winter morning. I was still lying on my bed when my mother came into the room and opened the window. That’s when I saw them perched on our neighbor’s boundary wall. Partners, having some “alone time” together.

This week’s photo challenge theme, pure, transports me to that beautiful morning in Thimphu. The morning I had a glimpse of Buddha, pure and sublime, overlooking the hills and the city.
