The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Numbers

ludo, board game, dice, numbers

This week’s Daily Post photo challenge theme, numbers, re-opened a chapter from my childhood memories…

I remember those happy days when we took pleasure in this indoor board-game called Ludo. Throw the dice and give your move with the numbers you get. Numbers played a key role in this game. Those who were lucky found the ladders to move up quickly.

And the unlucky ones got the snakes and struggled to reach 100, which was the winning point.

Good numbers and bad numbers are just so relative in this game. What is good for one might be bad for the other players. You never know what awaits you in the next move.

Your age is a number.

Your school and college grades are based on numbers.

Your salary/income is a number.

And your blog-views are also numbers. 😉   😀

Unfortunately, we are seldom happy with these numbers.

Daily Post Photo Challenge: Spare

road, north sikkim, travel

I am just back from a refreshing trip to the Himalayan mountains in North Sikkim. There I saw how the environment is being polluted everyday by smokey tourist vehicles. Even the landscapes at above 17,800 feet are not spared from grasp of so-called “tourism”. Tourism in hilly areas like Sikkim, is definitely a means of economic development. But I doubt if it is always good for the nature and environment around us! What do you say?

Treat – For Your Eyes Only

Nature in its full bloom is always a treat to the eye… what do you say? 🙂

An (Extra)ordinary Evening in Varanasi

“Creativity is putting your imagination to work, and it’s produced the most extraordinary results in human culture.”

~ Ken Robinson

It was an ordinary evening in Varanasi that we were boating along the river Ganges. The lights on the ghats turned on one by one as the dusk fell over the city.  The priests were waving the lamps towards the holy river Ganges to perform the evening aarti, which is a ritual performed regularly on the famous Dasaswamedh Ghat in Varanasi. The tapering flames of the lamps were clearly visible from a distance. The reflection of lights in the rippling water made the scene extraordinary. It looked like the water caught fire. 🙂

I tried to capture the view with my Sony Cyber Shot W-190. But, I was standing in the middle of a moving rowing boat and made quite an effort to maintain my balance. 🙂  So, you can see, most of the images became blurry. That time I was upset and thought about deleting these images. But thank god, I didn’t! Now when I look back these ordinary images they remind me of those ‘extra’ ordinary moments in Varanasi.

Change: The only constant in life

pine cones, pine, pine nuts

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

George Bernard Shaw

It was a beautiful rain drenched morning in Paro. I woke up early and went outside. There were pine trees all around and cones hanging from the branches. While most turned brown I discovered some green ones too…. 🙂  and captured the change in one frame.

Monochromatic: Monsoon Mix

Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.

~ Pedro Calderon de la Barca

The theme is ‘monochromatic’ and the season is monsoon, so I had no other option than green to go monochromatic. 🙂  Captured the freshness of green foliage one afternoon, right after the rain. Refreshing…isn’t it?

Connected: Light is life

candle, candles, light

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.

~ Aristotle Onassis

Light is life, darkness is death. Let the light be all over. As long as I see light I feel alive… I feel connected to the universe.
